About
I've been shooting film since the 1960s, and these days I shoot digital as well. I've been told that I have a way of noticing things, and that there's a common thread running through my photographs, even when the subjects are wildly different. I'm drawn to unusual perspectives, unexpected relationships between objects, strong shapes, textures, and the occasional absurdity hiding in plain sight. I photograph landscapes, architecture, machinery, nature, and whatever else happens to catch my eye. I tend to compose in the camera, often getting closer rather than trying to fit more into the picture. I like strong contrasts, and I'm not particularly interested in making everything look pretty. Sometimes I know exactly what I saw when I took a photograph. Sometimes I don't figure it out until years later. Mostly, I just notice things.
